Goa defined in a photo…credits to Avijit Mishra

The above photo very much define the majority of taste of vacation in Goa. Although it is much more than that.

This was my 3rd trip to Goa, but my first blog on it. Although this blog will just another drop in travel blogs on Goa, but will try to pour in my all three travel experiences, to make it as comprehensive & detail, to help future visitors to Goa.

The first one was with my office team, with base at Varca Beach resort. If you have money, this is one of the best bets to stay in. Second trip base was in Dona Paulo, heart of Goa government, thus very neat & clean by Indian standards. Stayed there in IOCL guest house, “just awesome”: two wors to describe it. Third trip base was in Calangute beach, one of the busiest beach of Goa.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 42,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 16 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Sakhi Saheli..:-) September 30, 2010

This is my favorite radio show and thanks to Ayodhya verdict, which resulted in early close of office, I was able to listen to show after a long long time. Long time, because signals are poor within my office campus and sadly show is aired only on weekdays :-(.  Anyways, after a long time, I listened to the show and it reminded me my old promise to write about the show. Again thanks to Ayodhya verdict, I am staying away from TV and so having ample time to write about the show.

Now, for who donot know about the show, it’s a 3-4PM programme in Vividh Bharati, targetting female audience. But I am sure, there are equal number of male fans, as I explored in facebook and orkut. I see the show as a silent revolution working for upliftment of women in the country. I donot know the reason, why the show is not awarded at national & international level, but it certainly deserves. Along with OLD & GOLD songs, it talks about women upliftment, problems women face at work, family etc. Each day has a theme, so 5 themes a week. Thursday is supposedly, they shed knowledge about a famous Indian female personality and encourage its female audience. Similarly it has themes like employment oppurtunities for women, family based talks, cuisine talk etc.

The best part of program for me is the mesmerising voice of  hosts (all of them, come next to Lata Mangeskar & Leela Naidu for me). Renuka, Chanchal are amazing and most outstanding is Nimi Mishra. The next best part is when hosts read about the letters coming from its audience. This program has kept the post card culture not only alive but very lively. The letters come from all corners of the country, corners unheard of, and also may be missing in detail maps of goggle. The third best part, there is no ad, giving it an uniterrupted Audi pleasure. Perhaps, this is the only radio show, where song comes as last best part, for me.

I really miss this show, and hope they air this on weekends. Also if they improve strenght of signal, I can listen in office also. I remember, cancelling or bypassing 3-4PM meetings, to listen this show couple of years back. Anyways, I encourage all to listen this show. It encourages us to go back to basics, go back to cultural roots without disconnecting with latest world (I won’t use modern word). The show makes me feel, even small things in life can give UNMEASURABLE IMMENSE PLEASURE. I always have a smile on my face, when I listen this show.Keep the good show airing 🙂

Orkut Devdas and Devdasis… September 19, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — omus @ 11:23 am

Like many e-loafers, with nothing to do on weekend, I was browsing through funky communities of erstwhile No.1 social network of India, i.e. Orkut. I stumbled upon a community dubbed “Veggie Devdasis”. The community from name appeared funky, strange, different and so immediately appealed by intuition. And so I decided to explore more. There were 12 members, oops Devdasis, in the community, all in 20-30 age bracket, with Anamika (I don’t know if it’s a name or not) playing moderator role. With further exploration I found, it is female exclusive community, who once upon a time were in love with Veggie. (I opened a new window to search, who exactly on earth was this playboy?). As pages were loading up slowing, I thought of synonyms for the community name, like Veggie rejectees, Veggie ki Gopiyan and bla bla bla.

Veggie, as I explored more through his Orkut page, is just another guy of the gully, and of course an engineer working for some non-descript IT company of Bangalore as technical advisor. Must be of my age, 26. With further explorations through 1000s of his Unlocked Scraps, testimonials and profile, he seems to be a 100% Non-Veg food loving guy, from a pure vegetarian middle class family from Andaman, with no smoking, but social drinking habits. He explains himself to be a bathroom singer, with crush on some Zollywood film star.

Coming back to community of Becharis of Veggie, the community was the platform for the members to express their (supposedly) deep love for veggie. How dearly they loved him. Also this was platform to take out their anger, frustration against the central actor/character Veggie. But still, most of them, were hoping against hope. And they know if at all it is going to be true, it will be true for just one among them.

From my friend of friend of friend chain, I was able to get a direct link with one of the member, Dimple. Her photo in Orkut had no pimple in her face, and in my rankings was certainly much above average (I still wonder how Veggie could have parted from her). As per her, she is last recruit to this community (just 2 months old), means latest victim as per community membership (who knows how many un-registered Veggie devdasis would be there in this world). She may be of 18-20 (I was told by someone from day one, not to ask girls about their age) and is doing her BA. As per her, it was Love at first sight and also descript of first sight was so romantic, that I dare not to see even in my dreams, forget it happening with me in real life.

It was during a Volvo journey on IT corridor of Silk Board to Whitefield, on cloudy day of Bangalore, she stumbled upon Veggie. She was in window seat of route no. 500C and Veggie on his  Thunderbird. The bike caught her attention and eventually the rider. Both vehicles were travelling with equal speed and so she was able to stare continuously (with thoughts of seating on rear seat of that bike). Veggie noticed it and his sharp antennas detected the intention. He kept riding with equal speed, despite honking of monsters from behind. Soon both realized the established connection and Veggie signaled his mobile number through his fingers and Dimple noting it down secretly, with no-noticing from surrounding crowd. And from there on the affair started, with usual ritual visits to Cafes, theatres and late night calls. It went on for 2 months, before Dimple had to part ways because of parental pressure. She still is in deep love with him, but is sad that Veggie is not talking with her anymore. I pray god, she gets back to normal again.

My friendship with Dimple increased with every passing day and on my oath taking, she started revealing community secrets to me. I got to know more interesting things about the community. Community has two erstwhile members, i.e. alumni. They left the community, because they got married and supposedly were out-of-shock. But they still were emotionally supporting the existing members. For obvious reasons, details of those members, Dimple did not reveal. Also a get together of Veggie Devdasis happened, 1 year back. It was a symposium, with members revealing their faces, emotions, love, and tragedy. Now that sounds like a pilgrimage and I wonder if any ppt was used for SYMPOSIUM. There are even chapters, based on locations (Veggie traveled from one city to other because of either his father’s transfer or due to his study transfers. So he left his love chaap in all cities. Now that’s 100/100 score).

Here is the story of Anamika, founding sister (as the Devdasis call her) of the asylum community. That’s her real name and as per Dimple, she must be of 26 years. She is supposedly the first love and also the most long-lasting love of Veggie. Their love bloomed in school, when veggie joined afresh in 8th standard and continued till 12th class. And then transfer due to higher studies, resulted in termination of their love. (Well I am no judge to say if that’s love or lust)

Next in the line is Bhumika, college GF of Veggie. Love started with an act of ragging, bloomed for 2 years, but ultimately Veggie gave up due to constant ego problems. Bhumika is still in some kind of shock state even after so many years.

There are many such interesting stories of love (or lust) start ups and eventual fall down. Another interesting start up is that of Enna. Both Veggie and Enna used to board respective company bus from BTM- Udupi garden stop, at sharp 8AM. As per Enna, it was Veggie who gave constant eye blowing job, but she ignored. It was in evening of Veggie’s B’day, Veggie proposed her with Red rose and Cadbury ( I suspect if “Subh Arambh” ad of Cadbury is inspired from this), after waiting 2 hours in bus stop, where she used to get down and she could not refuse. Things were going very well, but suddenly things went sour with entry of “soon to be Devdasi” entering Veggie’s life. Enna is still in love because of the fashion he proposed her. As per her, that’s a very romantic moment any girl can have in her life.

All this I knew while chatting with Dimple. Our chats would long hours entering late nights. I even started overlooking my job, missing meetings, just to rush back home, open my laptop and chat with her. Besides discussing about community’s romantic history, but sorry sufferings, we chatted about each other. Soon, we both were “mutual chat addicted” , and chat going beyond Veggie and his Devdasis. I started showing symptoms of “Post Modem depression”. Although we were never saw each other, never listened each other voices, but we knew each other like I was her and she was me. I started developing feelings for her and I suppose she too. I continued to chat for 6 long months, without expressing my feelings. But now I was mad about her, thinking day and night about her. I was desperate to meet her, talk to her, listen her voice, see her eyes. One fine night, finally I told her about my raging feelings, I just vomited out all my thoughts and finally she agreed to meet on weekend in a coffee shop.

The day I went early to coffee shop with a red rose (I guess this was first time in my, I had been so romantic. Actually that was code of recognizing each other. I decided not to share mobile numbers, just to make our meeting very romantic). Time passed, I had already gulped down 3 mugs of coffee. Time flew away from afternoon to evening to night, but she did not show up. Waiter kept on asking to produce bill, I kept on telling I wanted more coffee. I was almost in tears and anger and fear by end of day. I feared if something wrong happened to her (if she met an accident or what). Anger raged in, if I was being ditched. Tear flowed down with my heart filled with love for her. I went home, immediately switched on my laptop and left her a chat note of “What happened”. Hours past, days past, weeks past, but no reply. A month ago, we couldn’t stay away from each other without chatting. And now suddenly all lull. I kept checking her profile, status etc., but no updates. Worst thoughts were coming to my mind, but I kept thwarting those away, hoping she would show up some day. I found my self, falling in pit of depression and nothing would amuse me. Exactly a year later of discovering Veggie Devadasis community in Orkut, with grown beard, dark skin and thin looks, I became the founder of “Dimple Devdas” community in Orkut and “Hoping against the hope”.

Disclaimer : The resemblance of article and its character to any alive or dead is purely coincidental. I tried to put variables name like X,Y Z to my characters, but it was robbing the little originality it has. So assigning some earthly name was imperative.

The article is 99.9% fiction, drawn from vacuum of brain and 0.1% is result of inspiration from real life incident, of which I was a spectator. Inspiration is from my friends’ life, where he rejected many proposals he got in his matrimonial profile. I have conveyed to him being inspiration and he has a given green signal, on condition that his name is kept anonymous all the time. So thanks buddy.

When I listened he had to make 12th rejection, I jokingly said him, “you have created a cricket team with an extra woman”. And that was the trigger of next whole of the story. It was during one of the “post modem depression”, happening due to frequent black outs in IT city, that I build up on this.

Trouble with Costliest and Cheapest cars September 3, 2010

C for Costliest car , C for cheapest car. And whats lately troubling both these C’s is letter F, which stands for Fire. On 27th August, a Nano caught fire, taking total casualty to 5 (casualty for Nano), since its much famed launch last year. Also this week A new sports version of Ferrari caught fire, resulting recall of 1200 cars of same model.

When first time I heard news of Nano catching fire way back in Jan, I had thoughts may be to bring down cost, some safety aspects have been compromised on. But the recent news of costliest car also catching fire, my perception changed. I realized,  cheap or expensive, after all designed by Engineers like us, who are prone to making mistakes in design. For Gods grace, no one was injured in all these incidents.

And as they say the 5 destructive elements of nature donot see status, color, creed, caste, citizenship. When they create havoc, they just engulf anyone. And these two incidents prove the fact of Fire belonging to “Fame-5” destructive elements group, who donot differentiate among its victims. I am sure engineers of both will work upon and overcome the flaws. So buyers, donot worry about the Cheapest tag associated with Nano. Long live Nano.

Michelangelo’s “Human body” Art redefined.. July 5, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — omus @ 1:01 am

Michelangelo Human body redefined:

Stomach: Gasifier

Mouth: Feed Injector

Nerves: Pipelines

Nose: Air injection port

Lungs: Air separation unit

Kidney: Grey water treatment

Heart: Pump

Brain: Programmable logic control (PLC)

Legs: Gasifier support

Hands: Feed handling system

Skin: Material of construction

Bowels: Lock hopper

Genitals: Grey water blowdown

Food: Feed

Masala food: High Sulfur feed

Stool: Slag

Failure scenarios:

Acidity: Disease caused due to feed of high sulfur (masala)

Obesity: Disease where pipes (nerves) gets blocked due to tar (fat)

Constipation: Disease where gasifier is devoid of feed, very high carbon conversion

Diarrhea: Disease where carbon conversion is very less, resulting in excess slag formation

Gingivitis: Problem with feed injector

Stomache: Gasifier operational issues

Nature made gasifier is unique in design, its moving one, its flexible taking any shape with contraction & expansion facility. It can accept both dry and slurry feed with water content of any range. Liquid fuels are also very acceptable. The resultant syngas is used in polygen application, with power and chemical production simultaneously. Average life of gasifier ranges from 50-70 years.

Indeed gasification is very much “Humane”. Today I understand the proverb: “Let me go and release the pressure”: pressure of gasifier..:-)

Poor state of affairs at Kali Temple, Kalighat,Kolkata February 19, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — omus @ 8:27 pm

This is a blog to draw attention to sad state of affair, in one of the holiest temple of Kolkata. Hopefully, people and media wake up and rise to the occasion to save the temple from vulturous “pandas”.

As a tourist to Kolkata, I went to Kalighat, to get blessings of Mata. The temple as we all know, is one of the most sacred and oldest temple of Kolkata. Thousand throng the temple every hour to seek blessings of Devi. Saturday being an auspicious day in temple, I chose that day to visit it and was there by 10:30AM.

I reached there by Metro and the moment I exited from Kalighat Metro station, pandas were there to greet me (that’s actually, a mere good show prior to the torture they do to worshippers). I was told about pandas behaviour, so was naturally cautious. As I walked 0.5-1 KM distance from Kalighat Metro to temple, I was constantly approached by panda. Some promised nice darshan in 50Rs, some Rs 100 and some 200. The varying prices, proved things are fishy here. So I went alone and decided to ignore them and get the darshan myself, the way I do in other “panda” haunted places like puri, Lingaraj in my home state.

So I was expecting something like of “General Darshan Line”, “Paid darshan line” in the temple, as all temples now-a-days usally have. But was shocked to see nothing of that sort in the temple. First I saw a general darshan line and it was about a KM long. So then enquired about “Paid darshan line” and was shocked to listen, that concept doesn’t exist here. Rather, paid darshan line here means, you pay to Panda and they will force you in a line, that can be easily called “Panda devotee line”.

What is irony here is that there is no management. Its all in hands of pandas. You pay them, they force in a “Panda devotee line” and strangely from general darshan line, I observed only that the other line was moving. Pandas were not allowing “General darshan” people to get inside temple. Since everything were in there hands, they just allowed “panda devotee line” to move, because these people had payed them. And people in “general darshan line” were not moving even inches. I was shocked that even after staying in line for 2 hours, I had hardly moved 30 mtrs in a 500 mtrs long line. I had thought even if we move in snails pace steadily, I will able to get inside temple in couple of hours. But here ground reality is completely different. You pay pandas or just get rotting for hours in unpaid line. It was really a very sorry affair in one of most sacred and visited temple, in second largest city in India (which was once second largest city in world).

Add to that, I was observing the rude behaviour of pandas to devotees, even who paid. If you pay less, you will be left unattended after some time and if you pay more, you can break the rules of line. They would take paying devotees, in in middle of line and just push them in. So here it all translates into “money is time”. The more you pay to panda, the quicker darshan you get, even if meant “Hook n crook” to fellow devottees.

I gave up after 2 hrs of stand still and asked for pardon to goddess for my lack of patience. But I think it was not lack of patience, because I have stayed in line for 4-5 hrs before, only reason being that I knew line is moving. But here I was not sure, whether I will get the darshan same day or not, unless I pay Pandas. The line was virtually static, even after I moved out.I preferred to not have darshan, than to pay ransom to pandas. I begged goddess and said in heart, I will come back some day else. And then I was gone.

This was not expected by me. I have seen far more crowded temples than this. But there always management reigns over the pandas. But here, there’s a completely different affair. I doubt, if at all the temple had a management. When temple authority could have made a legal fortune from paying devotees, it was loosing all this money to “well deep” pockets of pandas. This lack of management is clearly reflected in dilapidated state of temple and on faces of harrased devotees.

If at all you hit this article and are another such victim of pandas, do write and share your experience. May be some day, someone in Kolkata sees it and do something about it.

I propose following immediate actions for temple:

1) A management independent of pandas influence be formed.

2) The management should tour crowded temples of South India like Tirupati, Rameshwaram etc to learn how things are managed. They can leverage best practices from this temple

3) Immediately, a “Paid Line” or so called “VIP darshan line” should be formed, so that money of paying, goes to responsible hands and this fund can be used for improvement of temple.

4) Number of pandas should be limited.

5) A proper guide map should be there from Metro, near by bus station to temple.

If you have any other suggestion for improvement, please share here.

May goddess bless us all.

Wrong Priorities….Short Sightedness at its best August 6, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — omus @ 11:23 pm

Wrong Priorities…..this is what i see most of the government policies on. How???..read on.

Everyday one reads article about vacancies unfilled. Be it Forest department, be it Hospitals, be police. army, be it Archeology Survey of India, be it IT department. And last the biggest one, teaching department. U name it, seats are unoccupied. An estimate from NGO, shows 20 million vacancies in one or other form…yes 20 million.

So at one end are millions of vacancies, and the other end is crore plus unemployed. And the third end is billion rupees spending by government just to provide few days of  job.  This is where priorities comes into picture.

Government continues to spend on what is unsustainable….and overlooks the formula which in long term can only do good. Government continues to sight 2014 elections, instead of 2025 elections.

If government set up vocational training institute and impart the skills according to vacancies, just imagine the good it will do:

a) The trained ones would get 365days of employment instead of current 100 days (in reality this will further go down)

b) Those institutes will continue imparting training to future generations, inturn avoiding future vacancies and unemployment. “Ek teer se do sikaar”.

Mobile: This is the future. June 6, 2009

Thats Future

Thats Future

Want to see your future, just see your mobile. This is what I realized after visiting the Start Up city, a forum for start-ups to showcase their technology, held in NIMHANS, Bangalore on 6th June 2009.

By a naked eye estimate, there were around 100 start-up companies showcasing their technology and ideas they are working upon. But first hats-off to NIMHANS. I was surprised to see that a government college can have such an impressive infrastructure to hold such events. More than the scale, it was neatness and cleanliness a government college auditorium, which surprised me. I think this is one of the best example, what wonders a good un-corrupt administration can do.

Coming back to the theme, it was first kind for me. For me one take-away, Mobile is future. Around 30-50% start-ups are one way or other related to mobile services. Starting from Internet, payment, downloading, reading e-books, selling and buying, audio-video conferencing, movie watching, reading magazines, gaming, office work, photography and videography, presentation, any edition, data storage, banking, stock markets, messaging, GPS, writing & reading in any language of world…and any service one can think of, will be done from mobile.

Few companies shaping the future: Panini, MyMob, Jio Bindaas, Map My India, OnMobile etc.

I just can’t wait to see the FUTURE..;-)

Rajni Saaaaareee May 12, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — omus @ 11:04 pm

rajnikanth-after-makeup-thumbThis piece is dedicated of course firstly to THE GOD and then to the unknown person who inspired to write this. Some parts of this article i got it from a forwarded mail and i added more from inspiration.

Rajni, as you know is obviously the un-challenged king of South Indian movies. Rather anything less than GOD, undermines his stature. And because of this, he has also been talking points of many mails, more specific funny mails.

So just trying to consolidate all of this i have, to have a perfect stress buster for all readers. But before that just a disclaimer. The article is no way intentioned to hurt sentiments of Rajini fans (me included– i became a die hard fan, after seeing chandramukhi).

So ULTIMATE TRUTH FOLLOWS:

1) There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Rajnikant has allowed to live

2) Rajnikant counted to infinity – twice

3) There’s always two sides of a coin. For gravity, on one side is Newton, the other is Rajini sir.

4) When Rajnikant does a pushup, he isn’t lifting himself up, he’s pushing the Earth down.

5) Comets donot crash on earth as they fear Rajinikant.

6) Rajnikant doesn’t wear a watch, HE decides what time it is.

7) Rajnikant gave Mona Lisa that smile.

8 ) Rajnikant does not get frostbite. Rajnikant bites frost.

9) Remember the Soviet Union? They decided to quit after watching a Padayappa on Satellite TV

10) There are no races, only countries of people Rajnikant has beaten to different shades of black and white.

11) Rajnikant doesn’t actually write books, the words assemble themselves out of fear.

12) Rajnikant can divide by zero

13) Rajnikant is the only person, Osama Bin laden fears.

14) There’s nothing called Spacesman. Rajini is tha man who creaed space.

Whats the age of “YOUNG”????? March 22, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — omus @ 12:46 pm

Whats the age of young, wandering after reading number of articles, which tells a different age group of “YOUNG”.In one article, a parent laments, “my child being only 4 months, is too young to crawl”. Another quotes, “1 year child is too young to walk”. Another sporting parent boasts, “my 4 year daughter is too young to feature in state level tennis”. Now a 10th grade student says his junior,” you are too young to do trigonometry”. A final year engg. students goes and rag his “YOUNG” juniors. A manager says, “you are too young to join a company”, where as another says,”you are too young, to lead a team”. Now even a 26yrs old male & female are too young to marry. A couple quotes, “honey…we are too young to have a child”. A neta quotes, 42 yrs Rahul is too young to join politics, where as 45 yrs old BLA BLA is too young to contest elections. A 50 yrs old guy is too young to be CEO of a Fortune 100 company. Ironically 50 yrs politician is pushed backward, citing he/she has still 40 yrs ahead of him/her and is too young to be PM.
