Munnar is famous for Tea gardens, Indira Gandhi National Park and not to mention highest peak of south India, Annamudi ( 2695 Mts or 8842 fts).

At top of Anamudi is Ernakulam National Park, home to endangered Nilgiri Tahr. Sad thing is that almost 90% of Anaimudi, is now Tea gardens and one won’t find its actual vegetation.

Anaimudi, Munnar, Kerela

While i was expecting to trek to reach Anaimudi, that through thick Tropical rainforest and its mud….i found exactly the opposite. The whole roadside was outgrown with TATA TEA GARDENS and the road was small, but smooth.

The whole travel path is quite breath taking, but i did not like it because it was Man made and not Natural.

The other high point of the trip,  in on way to Munnar..Indira Gandhi National Park. The park is really very big, covered with thick vegetation and for first time felt to be in a real jungle. As we ascended the ghats, our eyes were treated with more scenic views. The water streams and and its sound had covered our engine sounds. The park is home to all sort of wild cats and is core of Nilgiri Bioreserve. This ghat section which connects Tamil Nadu and kerela, is less known and there was almost zero traffic. The other reason of zero vehicle traffic, is high animals traffic. but it was our bad luck, that we didn’t spot a single cow…:-(.The road of about 50 odd KMs is w/o a single human dwelling.

The other high point of the trip was Top slip. Its famous for wild animals sighting. The place is restricted to 40 vehicles per day and 2-wheelers are not allowed. So we had to book a jeep to reach the spot for Rs 400. We reach at the main spot, after getting driven through thick forest for about 40 mins. But it was our bad luck again, we couldn’t spot a single animal. At top slip there was a restaurant, few Tree houses for night stay & forest guard office. As per the statistics, last tiger was spotted below one of the tree houses 2 days back.
